RAM Constructions was established in 1976

As we approach 40 years in the construction industry we can look back and be proud of achievements and the contribution we have made to Canberra.

As a proud family company, we consider that our success is underpinned by fundamental family values of integrity and respect that we apply to all facets of the business. These are values that never go out of date and will continue to guide us as we continue to grow and develop.

While growth and expansion are a part of our strategy we will continue to approach this in a conservative and controlled manner. Our industry has its share of ups and downs so it is important for the Company and our clients that not only are we in tune to these movements, but we have the resources and planning in place to weather economic storms and industry downturns. Our strong balance sheet, experienced management team and diversity are key strengths that allow us to safely navigate these external influences.

Another great strength, and something we are extremely proud of, is the relationships that the Company has established over the past 40 years. These relationships include the ones with our clients, consultants, staff, suppliers, subcontractors and the general community. We go out of our way to establish and maintain relationships and seek at all times to avoid unnecessary conflict. We believe that this approach has gained us the respect of our stakeholders that contributes to our good name and repeat clients.

RAM Constructions have made a significant contributed to the Canberra construction industry through Government infrastructure and landscape projects, public realm developments and residential housing construction over the past 40 years. We are proud and thankful for the opportunities we have had and look forward to working diligently to strengthen our position and continue to provide quality services as we move through our first half century in operation.

At RAM, our key people have a diverse set of skills and experience, combined with an open and collaborative mind-set. They are supported by highly experienced administrators, site managers and foreman. The whole team takes pride in delivering high quality projects. Managing Director

Anthony O’Brien

Anthony has been involved in the construction industry for the past 18 years. Prior to joining RAM Constructions in 2001, Anthony worked for national commercial construction companies including Multiplex, Watpac and Haskins Contractors. During this time he was exposed to wide cross section of projects within the construction industry including commercial building, civil construction and fit-out projects. Anthony has worked in Sydney and Canberra on project management, design and construct and lump sum projects. During his time he held the position of estimator, site engineer, contracts manager and project manager.

As Managing Director, Anthony is responsible for the diversification of RAM’s operations. Not only has he developed the internal management systems, he has developed strong relationships with clients through consistently producing high quality projects. Through these repeat clients and RAM’s good reputation he has been able to progressively grow the operation and further strengthen the Company’s position.

Chairman and Construction Manager

Michael O’Brien

    Michael has over 40 years’ experience in the industry and has formal training in property valuation and economics. His passion has always been working at the ‘coal face’ which he is now able to do in his Construction Manager capacity.

    Michael has a detailed theoretical and practical understanding of construction. He also has a broader, project-level perspective and the ability to interpret the requirements of a contract and coordinate complex projects over a number of sites. He regularly visits sites and attends meetings where his input to projects is invaluable. His guidance and mentoring of the young managers ensures that his extensive experience and knowledge is available at all levels.

    Michael’s project management experience allows him to recognise and address potential issues in design and ‘build-ability’ before they impact on the progress of the works. This ensures that all projects progress in a timely manner and are completed to the highest standard.

    Financial Manager

    Josephine Donges

    Jo joined RAM Constructions in 2012 as the Finance Manager and very quickly demonstrated her ability to identify, organise, and address processes that were vital to the continuous improvement of this company. With 13 years’ experience in the construction industry, Jo has held similar roles at Manteena and Solve Projects.

    Competent in the use of various accounting systems as well as her understanding of the construction industry, Jo is able to manage all financial requirements for RAM Constructions with confidence and professionalism. She is well versed in the legal and ethical requirements of this Company as well as her professional association.

    Jo communicates regularly with State and Federal Government Departments, Financial Institutions, subcontractors, suppliers and staff. She is experience in preparation, presentation and analysis of financial reporting, cash flow, budget and legislative requirements, is highly organised and communicates well with regulatory bodies, clients, staff and subcontractors alike.

    Project Manager

    Joanne Farrell

    Jo has a trade certificate in Carpentry and a degree in Construction Project Management which has provided her with a strong theoretical and practical foundation. Jo has built on this foundation with a diverse range of projects including commercial high rise, residential high rise and domestic construction. She has even been involved in a Nuclear Design and Construct project in Lithuania.

    Jo’s skills and experience give her a thorough grasp of the technical and administrative requirements of a project. The diversity of projects and roles has also refined her organisational and management skills. She can confidently organise and lead teams across a broad scope of disciplines.

    Having worked as a subcontractor and main contractor, Jo has gained important insight into the pressures and drivers that affect key project team members. This helps her to manage positive outcomes for all parties. She is skilled at resolving the competing priorities of the client, consultants, project staff and external resources.

    Jonathon Boyd holds qualifications in Horticulture (Landscape), Work Place Health and Safety, Contract Administration and Project Management.

    His construction experience has been built from the ground up, giving him a unique skill set for the delivery of technically challenging construction projects. Jonathon has long-standing relationships with clients, contractors, consultants and service authorities and has developed a collaborative management style that ensures he meets or exceeds clients’ expectations.

    Jonathon’s technical skills are demonstrated by the successful projects that he has completed over the last 13 years. These include detailed open-space landscape, urban city scape, high rise feature landscapes, large-scale urban civil and landscape developments and specialised small scale-feature landscape works.

    Jonathon’s past roles as project manager and superintendent for both ACT Government and private clients demonstrate his ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams. He promotes a teamwork environment while maintaining strong control of all project personnel within their assigned roles. This ultimately ensures the delivery of the works in the most time and cost-effective manner.

    RAM Constructions is a certified Green Living Builder. The Master Builders’ Association of the ACT provides the Green Living training program to educate and train builders with the necessary tools to pursue sustainability options in their building and construction activities.
