Garema Place Upgrade
Upgrade of one of Canberra City's most significant public spaces, transforming Garema Place into a more vibrant and welcoming place for the community to gather, connect and enjoy the heart of Civic. Works included new paving, raised garden beds, bespoke seating, planting, upgraded lighting and supporting infrastructure.
Delivered for the City Renewal Authority in a busy city location, while maintaining community access and minimising disruption to surrounding businesses.
This project builds on the upgrades to City Walk completed in 2020, creating a thriving central meeting place that drives economic activity in the City Centre.

As contractors, the upgrade presented unique challenges, particularly due to the high-traffic, high-profile location. We adopted an innovative, bespoke approach to ensure seamless construction while working closely with 40+ retail businesses in the area.
Above ground, the work involved raised garden beds, bespoke seating and walls, significant planting areas, and new paved areas. Additionally, many of the beloved artworks were restored and replaced, with enhanced seating, outdoor dining spaces, and improved lighting to create a safer, more inviting atmosphere in the evenings.
Below ground, substantial upgrades were made to the infrastructure, including drainage and lighting improvements. These upgrades enhance the functionality and longevity of this important public space.
